You've heard of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Even better is #GivingTuesday - a global rally for great giving today (December 2, 2014). I'm glad you all scored some great deals and we were happy to share them. But now, it's time to focus on the real meaning of the season.
#GivingTuesday encourages people to share their own giving stories and favorite giving moments or organizations. I'm sharing two of my favorite charities and telling you a little about why I love them AND I'm going to be participating in a fun twitter party today at 12noonET.
Here's where we choose to give. First let's talk about BabyBuggy.org. Four times a year the Momtrends team has a morning of service. We head to the NYC headquarters of Baby Buggy to sort and assembly donations. We take a HUGE mound of clothing like this...
and turn it into tidy bundles for families in need. Designated community service organizations place "orders" with Baby Buggy by size--the clothes are ready and waiting. It's a great place to donate clothing and gear from your own family.
Since you might not be able to volunteer tomorrow, there's another way to give. Use your social media powers. Blinkbuggy, the website and mobile app that is reinventing the “baby book,” has teamed up with Baby Buggy to launch the #GiveAMemory campaign. The social media campaign will support #GivingTuesday by asking people to share a memory with friends and family on social media with the hashtag #GiveAMemory. For every post made (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) Blinkbuggy will donate $1 to Baby Buggy. Blinkbuggy has guaranteed a minimum donation of $5,000 to support this campaign. Blinkbuggy will donate an additional $1 to Baby Buggy for every #GiveAMemory social media post on #GivingTuesday above 5,000 shares and up to 10,000 shares for an added donation.
