In honor of Expecting Mom's Month we are featuring Best for Babes in our Momtrends Gives Back Campaign. Founded by two moms who struggled with breastfeeding (including one who did not want to breastfeed initially), Best for Babes is the new modern voice for expecting moms that are considering nursing their babies.
The good news is that most moms know the amazing benefits of breastfeeding, unfortunately, most are not achieving their personal breastfeeding goals, and a whopping 88% are not making it to the minimum six months of exclusive breastfeeding recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
That's where Best for Babes comes in! Best for Babes is shifting pressure off moms and on to the 'booby traps' the barriers that keep them from succeeding; barriers like social disapproval, hospitals that perform poorly on breastfeeding support, physicians giving breastfeeding lip service but don't help moms succeed, employers that don't provide pumping breaks or lactation rooms, and insurance companies that don't cover lactation counseling. At the same time they are working with the media and celebrities like Kelly Rutherford and Gabrielle Reece to provide moms with positive images, messages and role models that cheer them on and celebrate them for their efforts, whether they intend to breastfeed for 2 days, 2 months or 2 years. Best for Babes also has great info for moms who are on the fence about breastfeeding, a checklist for how to prepare for breastfeeding while you are pregnant, and information on how to get through the learning curve of the first six weeks post-partum.
