Interview with #1 New York Times Bestselling Author Iris Johansen

IJPicMonkey Collage

Jen: Hi Iris Johansen, your newest release, Night and Day, is the third and final novel in the Eve Duncan trilogy. For those readers not familiar with this explosive series, please give us a brief overview of the first two installments.

Iris: An overview of the first two books of the trilogy is a little difficult to do because there's so much going on! Eve takes a young girl to the highlands of Scotland to hide her away from people who are trying to kill her. But there is also a treasure hunt, and Eve's own personal problems, and cartels and so much more. I loved writing these books. The characters are some of my very favorites.

Jen: Let’s talk about your lead character Eve Duncan in Night and Day. She’s a forensics sculptor on a high-energy adventure trying to save Cara from being hunted. Why is she so willing to put it all on the line? And, what exactly is a forensics sculptor?

Iris: Eve always puts her entire heart and knowledge on the line. She can't do anything else. She believes in helping those who cannot help themselves. Her profession as a forensic sculptor is only one example. A forensic sculptor is able to take the skull of a victim and bring it to an amazing semblance of how they looked during life. This helps with ID and resolution for those who care about them.

Jen: What was the most challenging part of writing the conclusion to a three-part series? How did you feel about laying these characters to rest?

Iris: The end of a trilogy is never difficult for me. The characters seem to tell their own stories and I just hang on for the ride. One book leads to another and I'm just as interested as the reader to see how it will turn out.

Have you tried Lillet? I admit I was a Lillet newbie, but was intrigued by Mom Boss author and Momtrends CEO Nicole Feliciano's love of it and had to give it a try. So I've had the rough assignment of getting to know Lillet this last month and am sharing my four favorite ways to ...read more

Jen: Please take us on a tour of your website highlighting points of interest.

Iris: Actually, we've recently revamped my website. My favorite addition is the Eve Duncan Trilogies page. I've done three Eve Duncan trilogies. The first in 2011 with Eve, Quinn, and Bonnie. The second in 2013 with Taking Eve, Hunting Eve, and Silencing Eve. And of course, the current trilogy Shadow Play, Hide Away, closing with Night and Day. On this page you can read excerpts, buy the books from all available vendors, and my favorite--admire the beautiful connected covers!

Jen: Are you currently at work on your next project? If so, what may you share with our readers?

Iris: I'm currently working on No Easy Prey and I'm having great fun with it. The main character is Margaret Douglas whom I've introduced in previous books, but never given her own story. She is totally unique and has real animal instincts!

Many thanks go out to Iris Johansen for chatting with us.
