Nicole Balch's blog, Making it Lovely, has been one of my favorite design blogs since I moved into my house. Her specialty is transforming the so-so and I have been eagerly taking notes. She does a lot of the work herself and the result is a the perfect combination of vintage modern. She makes it lovely. Really, lovely. I really wanted to share her latest project--a nursery.
She had me with her glorious dining room. When she first posted the photos, I was in the midst of trying to decide on wallpaper for our dining room and was so impressed that she went for it. (I could never decide on a pattern, so I painted our room white and bought art!)
Her daughter's bedroom is a great example of how Nicole mixes styles. Not only is it outfitted with Land of Nod's incredible Oak Park Bookcase (I love how it looks almost mid-century) and the classic Jenny Lind bed, but the details make it truly unique. She mixed contemporary, like the Jonathan Adler light fixture, with plenty of vintage girly, like the curtains she made herself, and a touch of mid-century, the chair fromUrban Outfitters, and the result is far from so-so.
Nicole painted the vintage dresser pink and added more feminine touches like the flower hooks and hot pink storage.
