You've got your outfit all picked out, ironed and ready to go: a "Kiss Me I'm Irish" tee—or perhaps a mint-colored cashmere sweater... St. Patrick's Day is approaching, and you've got the green garb to prove it. But before you get dressed and crack open a Guinness, allow us to show you your your March 17th makeup must-haves.
Green is not an easy color to pull off—especially when it comes to makeup. Apply an emerald eye shadow with pink cheeks, and you're on a fast-track to "clown face." Dare to be different with a shamrock lip, and you've entered Wicked Witch territory. Go bold with lime lacquered nails, and good luck at that job interview...
You might be able to get away with a few over-the-top choices on St. Paddy's Day, but your makeup shouldn't be one of them. And when it comes to green cosmetics, we say err on the side of subtle. That's not to say you can't rock any green—just tread lightly. And, for that matter, apply lightly too. Try a rich, dark green eye shadow in your crease to create a smoky effect. Avoid super bright or neon nail colors, and go with a rich deep hue or pastel option instead. And, above all else, when using green eye makeup, keep the rest of your face fairly natural (think even skin, bronzer and a high-shine, colorless gloss.)
To celebrate St. Patrick's Day, I've rounded up a few of my favorite gorgeous and glamorous green beauty goodies and a few other fun finds (Stout shampoo, anyone?). Pick one—or maybe even two—and get ready to celebrate the luck of the Irish.
