If there is one thing I wish I could still do, it’s donate my hair. Along with my last baby came a slew of grey hair, so I color it now, but when I was younger, I would grow my hair out super long, donate it and start the process over again. It’s just hair after all...and I had the power to help those who needed it more than I did. I watched someone I love lose her hair to cancer and it’s heartbreaking to see something so demoralizing happen to a person you care about. Don’t you wish there was a way you could help? Well, guess what? There is! Enter the Pantene Beautiful Lengths Program…
Since 2006, the Pantene Beautiful Lengths Program has collected more than 800,000 ponytails that helped create more than 42,000 real-hair wigs. These wigs were distributed to American Cancer Society wig banks all over the country and given out for free to women battling cancer. They also work with the non-profit organization The Greater Cincinnati Foundation which accepts monetary donations. So, if you don’t want to or can’t donate your hair, you can still help. It’s important to note that 100% of the contributions made to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths Fund go directly to creating the wigs.
And today, September 8th, the #8or8 Challenge and National Donate Your Hair Day are kicking off! How can you get involved with these exciting initiatives you ask? Well, there are a couple of easy ways that you can show your support! You can give $8 or donate 8 inches of hair which will be used to make those free wigs that have been helping so many brave women. Simply go to your salon to get your hair cut and head HERE for directions on where to send the donation once you have your ponytail in hand.
To make a monetary donation to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths Fund, you can visit the Pantene Beautiful Lengths One Today by Google page and donate here. You can ALSO retweet Pantene’s Charitweets that will be explaining how to donate to the cause...See? There is a way for everyone to get involved no matter how much time they have to devote!
Next spread the word by using the hashtags #8or8 and #BeautifulLengths, tagging @Pantene and posting to your social media channels...At the same time you can help promote National Donate Your Hair Day (NDYHD) which is an annual day of giving that encourages people to cut and donate their hair to the Beautiful Lengths program.
We urge you to accept the #8or8 Challenge today THEN challenge your friends and family to get in on the fun too. Just think about how many new wigs could be made and donated if we each got one more person to participate!
