How to Wear Red Lips

A bright lip is kinda my signature look when it comes to makeup and the color of that lip typically changes with the seasons. During the warm weather months, for instance, you'll most often see me sporting a coral, pink or fuchsia colored lip, while colder weather makes me want to bring out the RED! And since we're well info fall now, red lipstick is where it's at for me. With sweaters, come red lips...period.

Frankly, nothing wakes up my face like a bright red lip. And since I know this statement making hue can be rather scary if you aren't used to bold lipsticks, I thought I would share some of my favorite tips for how to wear red lips. I'm lucky enough to be very good friends with a professional makeup artist, you see, and she's given me some must have beauty tips over the years...

Red Lips Tips

Hydrate...Making sure you don't have dehydrated lips is very important when wearing red lips or any super-pigmented color. I've shared this tip before and I'll keep sharing it because it's so easy and so effective. Slick on a lip balm and exfoliate your lips with a clean toothbrush. Easy Peasy! Personally, I'm loving BITE Agave Lip Balm right now. It's SO moisturizing!

Prevent bleeding...If you're going really bold with your lipstick look, bleeding is a distinct possibility, so apply a bit of concealer on the skin around your lips to help prevent that dreaded bleeding from occurring. And you can even apply a bit of foundation to the top of your lips for staying power.

Use a lip brush...Sure you can apply your red lipstick directly from the tube, but we all know what a pain it is to get that color off your skin if you make a mistake. So, unless you have a super steady hand, using a lip brush ensures preciseness. Oh and make sure you bring that lip brush with you for on-the-go touch ups!
