Beauty & Beyond: The Perfect BFFs for Your Long Lashes

lashes, easy long lashes, beauty, beauty tips

The last thing I want to do is put on mascara when it’s hot out. Lest my friends start to ask who invited the raccoon to their BBQ.

To avoid mascara (and just generally have my eyes look amazing 24/7), I finally took the plunge and got lash extensions. Of course, only the best would do, so I went to Lash L’Amour. This beloved place in town recently garnered the attention it deserves by winning the coveted Best of Boston award by Boston magazine for lash extensions (holla!).

These dainty extensions are put on one at a time with glue (not the kind found on your kid’s back to school shopping list) to each individual lash. Enter gorgeous flirty fringes on your eyes - toss the mascara and expect some stares.

But with these treats come upkeep. Since I have been relegated to oil-free makeup remover and facial cleanser status and warned against liquid liner, I was at a loss. Not only did I need to find a new cleanser, but I love liquid liner. Its precision is bar none. Le sigh.

Urban Decay just relaunched its 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils with a bunch more shades, putting it at one of the largest collections of colors ever. They’ve added 13 brand new shades and 14 previously exclusive shades to the already covetable lineup, for a total of 40 habit-forming colors in all—from vivid brights to shimmering metallic to all-day neutrals.

I have always loved the way these pencils draw on so smoothly, so I thought this will be the perfect way to channel my love for liquid liner without actually using it. I had no idea how incredibly waterproof these suckers were. Consider me schooled.

I put this forever-lasting liner on and went about my business on a hot sweaty day (that weekend was another BBQ central). When I came home that night, I tried my gentle makeup remover that’s especially for lash extensions. Nope. Not moving. Then I tried my oil-free cleanser, also approved for lash extensions. Nope. Not moving.

So as I sit here (a day and a half and five washes later), I still have the eyeliner on. It's worn off a bit, but you can still see a bit of the smoky gray. Needless to say, If you need staying power for your next BBQ, go with these. Talk about beauty extensions.

24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils are available for $19 at Sephora, ULTA, and

Of course now that my lashes look amazing, my brows couldn’t be left out. With the bad butcher job the last time I got them waxed, I’m still waiting for a few hairs to grow in. Another le sigh.

IT Cosmetics' new YBBB (Your Brows But Better) Brow Power Skinny pencil came to my rescue. This ultra-fine, high definition, long-wear (here we go again) automatic eyebrow pencil is draws the tiniest of lines. Perfect for filling in whatever you're missing.

And this is more than just a pencil. It's infused with brow-enhancing and conditioning ingredients including Biotin, Peptides, Saw Palmetto, Nettle Extract, Green Tea, Lecithin, Vitamins A, C, E, Grapeseed and Panthenol. A quick fluff with the spiral brush and you've got a natural look. They might even make your long lashes jealous.

YBBBBrow Power Skinny Pencil is available at for $24.
