March 8th marks International Womens Day and LOccitane are celebrating this special day with a limited-edition Womens Day Soap where 100% of the proceeds will help to build literacy centers for women in Burkina Faso, Africa. Since 2006 over 1,900 women have learned to read and write and over 5,000 women have been able to develop or enhance thanks to funding from programs like L'Occitane.
For just $8, you can only assist by purchasing LOccitanes fund-raising, fair trade soap. The Womens Day Soaps are produced in Burkina Faso as part of a development partnership with a local factory. The factory has been run entirely by women and supports their economic emancipation. Thanks to training provided by LOCCITANE, these women are able to draw on the skills they have learned. Income generated from the production of these soaps is reinvested in new equipment. It also enables women to be more autonomous and help support their households. They can take care of their families more easily, feed their children and send them to school. They can even purchase a bicycle, for easier travel.
The soap itself is mild and gently formulated with LOccitanes signature ingredient; Shea Butter. It is also adorned with an engraved motif that was designed by a Burkinabé artist, Sougouri Sawadogo. The meaning of this bogolan (mud cloth) motif is EDUCATION.
