I live in a relevantly small apartment so I never purchased a monitor for my first daughter--I wasn't sure I needed a digital video monitor. I was woken quickly up by her cries, nursed her and she was off to bed. My new baby, though, has been completely different where she has been rolling and turning and favoring sleeping on her stomach. This has made me increasingly nervous where I have been checking up on her throughout the night - leaving me exhausted and often times waking her up. To avoid this nervous wake-up cycle, I have been using a monitor this time around, specifically the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Digital Video Sensor Pad Monitor.
At a recent preview of the device I was intrigued by how a pad called the mattress sensisleep works as a alert system that monitors a baby's movement and alerts parents or caregivers when movement is not sensed. To set it up is pretty easy; simply place the senisleep under a crib mattress to monitor movement. At the event, I learned that the monitor will go off if no movement is sensed in 20 seconds. I love how quickly it was designed to work that signed with an alarm.
The device also included a video camera - much like standard monitors - so that you can view your baby's movements from the comfort of your own bed. Equipped with a 2.8inch Full Color LCD screen, the camera with infrared night vision camera allows you to see your baby day or night up to 1,000 feet. There are also easy-to-read LCD displays and a choice of languages for international use. Of course, it was perfect to watch over her at night, but I also loved to use it during the day if I had to run to the bathroom or do something where I couldn't have her on the floor. It functions as a perfect monitor so that you can track and view your baby - sleeping or otherwise.
During the first nights I was worried that the alarm would be loud and wake my older daughter - it went off but it was gentle enough to alert me and not wake the entire house. I also loved looking at her through the vivid and clear screen. Instead of going in her room at all hours I was able to see her resting peacefully and if her movements did stop I had the alarm to let me know.
Our sleeping situation is far from perfect but now I have a device to give me a peace of mind to help me watch over her while as she is learning how to sleep.
