A Cozy and Safe Place to "Dock a Tot"

All I want for Christmas is sleep. Beautiful, blissful, totally uninterrupted sleep. For, like, 10 hours straight. (Dear Santa...)

Needless to say, as a mom to an early-rising three year old and an even earlier-rising one year old, sleep is something that often eludes me. I miss it. I crave it. I obsess over it. (Will they nap at the same time so I can get some work done? Will they wake in the middle of the night looking for a binky? Will they let me stay in bed past 5 AM—For. The. Love!!!)

While I yearn for a luxury California King mattress, these days, I can fall asleep just about anywhere. My sleeping space isn’t really the issue. My children, on the other hand...

Bedtime has definitely been a struggle with Baby P, and while we’ve had some major progress these last few months, every night still feels like a gamble. (Will she be up at 3 AM ready to party or will she take mercy on her poor mama?)

I never thought I’d be a co-sleeping mama, but you've got to do what you've got to do to get some zzz's; and, so, little Miss P makes her way into my bed a few nights a week.

In the past, I'd get her next to me, and I would snuggle her and stroke her and kiss her and pet her and silently BEG her and mentally WILL her back to sleep. And by the time she'd finally nod off, I’d be so wound up and stressed out, that I'd have trouble getting myself back down. (Not to mention the fact that somehow an itty-bitty 19 pound sweat-bomb can dominate an entire Queen size bed.)

Yes, this was our nightly routine until recently when we discovered the DockATot.

The DockATot is exactly what it sounds like—a place to “dock” your tot. Sounds simple enough, right? But this plush product just might be one of my top five favorite baby discoveries of 2015 (and that is saying a lot). The DockATot’s unique shape and design allows Baby to chill, play, rest, snuggle and sleep in a totally safe environment. It’s Oeko-Tex certified, air permeable, and provides an ideal hygienic microclimate which seeks to mimic the womb.

I can put the DockATot in my big bed in the middle of the night and Baby P instantly has a secure sleep space. I don’t need to worry that I’m going to hurt her; she no longer hogs the bed; and we both sleep more soundly.

But that’s not all! (Do I sound like an infomercial yet?) The Grand DockATot (it come in two sizes) accommodates children up to 36 months—so you can get use out of it for a really long time. In fact, my three year old loves snoozing in the DockATot too! At night, he sleeps in a crib. (I know, I know, I need to make the big transition to a toddler bed, like, yesterday, but I’ve just been so tired that I haven’t wanted to deal with a whole new bedtime battle.) We’ve been dipping our feet in "big-boy bed territory" by letting him nap on the daybed in our living room—and he cozies up in the DockATot to feel snug as a bug. Those amazing air-permeable bumpers keep him safe and secure, and he naps like a dream. I think the DockATot is going to be the key part in this major transition.

There's only one problem: When we finally do move him to his own bed, we’re gonna need a second DockATot!
