FAOSchwarz just opened their own paint-your-own pottery studio at the Fifth Avenue store. At MAKE you select your own ceramic pieces, paint and decorate them with bold creative colors and textures, and leave them behind to be glazed and kiln-fired. MAKE is a part of a crafty biz formerly called Our Name is Mud now called MAKE Meanings. Their studios have been around for 12 years studios on the Upper East and West sides of Manhattan. Now they've landed in the ultimate kiddie fun destination.

On our first visit we picked a cupcake. The lid pops off--so we thought this would be a fun spot for Dad to store some of his office supplies. Consider Father's Day done! The price was $21.14 for a three-year-old (older painters will be more expensive). Prices for the pieces start at $10, and go up to $75 for the largest pieces. Items include piggie banks to mugs to frogs--all waiting for an artist to transform them.

For the quality of the materials and the location, this price was a steal. From start to finish the project took about 35 minutes, and then we toured the most amazing toy store in Manhattan.

We were a bit confused about pickup. You've only got about two weeks before the pieces disappear and the receipt doesn't give the pickup hours or when the item is ready. You can select to have the finished pieces delivered or pick-up them up.
