On September 12 and 13, 2009 the award-winning professional dance company Brooklyn Ballet will open the doors to its new School at 160 Schermerhorn Street, in the heart of Downtown Brooklyn.
Brooklyn Ballet is thrilled to provide Brooklyns young dancers with a ballet conservatory on par with the best dance academies in New York City, says Ms. Parkerson, BB founder. Brooklyn Ballet will be located in The Schermerhorn House. In addition to the Ballet, the building will include small studios for artists, while the other half will be for the formerly homeless or those who need daily support. Brooklyn Ballets tenancy plus a black box theater on the ground floor was part of the vision that would ensure that the building would not operate in isolation from its surroundings, which include 14 new $2 million townhouses and the nearby BAM Cultural District.
For children, classes will range from "Move with Me" classes for 2 year-old dancers to advanced ballet (Ballet II and III) for ballerinas ready to commit to 2-3 classes per week. To find out more about the Brooklyn Ballet and the classes stop by the free open house.
