Where to Find Cool Glasses for Kids
I have a very discerning, fashion-conscious daughter in my house. She's been wearing glasses since she was 2 years old. Each year her prescription changes and we are constantly wondering where to find cool glasses for kids. During back to school season this year, we went to SEE Eyewear to pick out a new set of frames.
Where to Find Cool Glasses for Kids
SEE (Selective Eyewear Elements) was conceived by optical pioneer, Richard Golde. The idea was to build an optical boutique that would change the rules of purchases glasses. They turned the purchase of “cool” eyewear into a fashionably and economically correct experience. This fall we paid a visit to the Smith Street SEE location in Brooklyn, a bustling street just a short walk away from my daughter’s middle school.
The shop is tidy and friendly. It’s the type of place where you won’t feel intimidated trying things on or asking for help. Apryl greeted us and after quick introductions showed us to the new colorful collection for kids. Spoiler alert: the entire collection is priced at $149 for single vision lenses. For this price, I was expecting blah frames, both my daughter and I were thrilled with our options and got busy with a try-on sessions.
What Makes SEE Glasses Stand Out
SEE produces an incredibly limited number of each style, so your child is sure to be the only kid in class sporting this season’s coolest frames. They are known for their unique and affordable frames (click here to see the cool set of reading glasses I picked up at SEE earlier this year). We quickly filled a tray full of try-on possibilities.
Created to be a pint sized version of SEE’s fashion forward styles, each pair is made from the finest Mazzuchelli acetate and highest quality stainless steel and titanium in the same European warehouse as the grown-up designer frames. My daughter gravitated towards tortoise prints, clear accents and even a few colors.
Apryl left us to play and try things on. She was ready to give an opinion when needed, but we never felt pressured. A new set of glasses is a bit commitment to an accessory. These things can’t be rushed!

How the Process Works for Kids
After we made our selection, we shared the doctor’s prescription with Apryl. Since my daughter has a bifocal lens, it was a tad more complicated, but we felt like we were in good hands.
For $149, the glasses can be accommodate a single vision lens (our lenses are more complicated and cost a bit more). When SEE makes the glasses they include an anti-reflective coating on every pair. Price is important with kids. Over the years quite a few pairs of glasses have been stepped on, lost or scratched. It pains me to spend hundreds of dollars on frames, but I also want my daughter to love her look. What’s a mama to do? This mama kept searching until she found SEE.
The finished product
In about two weeks I got a call from Apryl that the glasses were in. We stopped back in to check them and get a fitting. The bifocals looked great and Apryl adjusted the frames to fit my daughter’s face perfectly.
Now she’s got a fresh pair of specs that she feels great in (very important for 6 grade) and that I’m loving.
