Like most kiddos her age, my daughter is a huge American Girl doll fan. We started her on a Bitty Baby a few years ago and a love affair was born. She, of course, loves all the dolls, but she’s so all in with American Girls that she lives for something as simple as their catalog. It’s a happy day in our house when one of those comes through the mail. So, she was, obviously, beyond thrilled when she learned about the newest addition to the American Girl family, Nanea Mitchell! And being the tropical lovin’ gal that she is, my baby girl just HAD to put together an outfit that matched Nanea’s…But before we get to her island-inspired style, let’s talk about Nanea’s story.
Nanea Mitchell grows up in Honolulu in the year of 1941. Readers of her story will learn about what it was like to live through the bombing of Pearl Harbor, and the aftermath ,from an islander’s perspective. You will marvel at the accurateness of her story. American Girl actually consulted with an advisory board who offered up their expertise on Hawaiian history and culture. As a parent, I so appreciate that attention to detail because American Girls stories can be such a great inspirational way to teach kids about history!
Ok, now for that island inspired style I mentioned. My little lady selected one of her favorite dresses, a colorful printed maxi and finished things off with an uber bright bow the same color as Nanea’s tropical flower. Together they’re quite the festive pair aren’t they?! And while I know that fall is on its way, us Florida folks are still rockin’ our summer wear, including maxi dresses! So, if you want to throw together one more summer outfit, why not try some island inspired style on for size! Think tropical prints and vibrant hues.
And why not pick up Nanea Mitchell for the next special occasion in your little one’s life as well? You can feel great about this purchase, not only because American Girl is such a wonderful brand, but also because through December 31st, 2017, they will match any customer donation to the American Red Cross, up to $75,000 maximum, made at americangirl.com or at any American Girl store in the U.S. American Girls wanted to support the American Red Cross in their Service to the Armed Forces and their mission to provide care and comfort to members of the military, veterans, and their families. I think that’s something we all want to support right?!
