Tampax Donation Program

There are many times when I’ve needed a tampon. My biggest issue is forgetting to put extras in my bag (not an issue finding space for them with the Pocket Pearl from Tampax). But I’ve never had to go without my monthly supply of feminine care products because of capital N NEED. For many women, having a proper monthly supply of tampons is a luxury–that’s why I was thrilled to participate in the Tampax Donation Program.

Think about that for a minute. Not being able to afford to take care of yourself in the most basic way. One of the most powerful things about my work is being able to shine a light on needs like this and to tell you about the good work companies like Tampax are doing.

This month I was able to connect my long-time charity partner GOOD+ Foundation, with Tampax to make a HUGE donation. This month, GOOD+ Foundation will be getting $10,000 in product (about 40,000 tampons) to help their clients.

GOOD+ Foundation recognizes that more than 16 million children in the United States (more than 22% of all children) live in poverty. Imagine earning less than $23,550 a year for a family of four! Now you understand how tampons and pads can seem like a luxury. For more than a decade Good+ has been serving these families in need.

GOOD+ Foundation invests its resources in more than 150 anti-poverty organizations nationwide with a goal of: improving the chances for low-income moms and their children to outgrow poverty; empowering dads so they can fully embrace fatherhood and the responsibilities that accompany this role; and, supporting programs that provide high-quality early education and engage parents in the healthy development of their children.

For the past few years my Momtrends Team of employees have donated time at GOOD+ Foundation to sort donations and put together care packages for families in need. I’ve also spent time at the centers that receive GOOD+ Foundation grants and products. I always come away impressed with the efficiency of the efforts. Nothing is wasted.

Wish lists are put together and GOOD+ Foundation swoops in to fill the needs as fast as they can. Sadly, there never seems to be a lack of need.

Living in my bubble of privilege isn’t for the best. I strive to operate from a place of generosity and gratitude. I try to leave my heart open to ways to help and give back. But I get busy and distracted.

Up until now I was ignorant about the need for feminine care products. When Tampax and Always educated me about Menstrual Hygiene Day (May 28), I was happy to join the cause. I might not have $10,000 to donate, but I can be a connector and give voice to those in need. Let this serve as a reminder to all of us, that sometimes just using our hearts and voices can make a big difference in a mom’s life.

Thank you to Tampax and P&G for stepping and being generous and thank you to GOOD+ Foundation for being the conduit to get the products to moms who need them most.
