One of the looks that I rocked during New York Fashion Week featured an amazing custom feather necklace created by stylist and accessories designer Ahndea May of Heirbloom. I knew it was a special piece the moment I opened the box, but I had no idea just how much attention it would get me. People were stopping me in my hotel, at events and even on the street asking where it was from. To have that happen in a city known for its fashion prowess, now that’s really saying something! My love for this feather statement necklace and the amazing response it got caused me to seek out even more feather bedecked pieces to add to my fall wardrobe.

Feathers were seen on the fall 2013 runways of the likes of Alexander McQueen, Proenza Schouler, Gucci, Dries Van Noten, Jason Wu and more…I could go on and on! If you’re looking for a little feathery inspiration, check out just one or two of those collections and, I promise, you’ll start hunting down your own feather piece STAT! Thanks to their dominance of the fall runways, I think you can officially call them a fall 2013 fashion trend! And if you happen to be looking to add a little drama to your wardrobe, feathers are for you! They instantly take me to a Swan Lake kinda place and don’t most of us girls secretly wish we were ballerinas? Or is that just me? It definitely explains my obsession with tutus…Haha!
I’ve curated a little mini collection of feather goodies just for you. It may seem like a daunting trend to try, but these pieces would be super easy to insert into your fall style as they’re mostly just accents meant to add a some oomph to an outfit. Throw on a caplet over an LBD and you’ll instantly have a statement making ensemble. Instead of using your go to evening clutch for a night out on the town, switch things up and step out with a marabou bag. And for your next dressed up event, a feather collar will take your look to the next level! Easiest of all is the scarf…Throw a feather scarf on over your favorite knit, then add some leggings and a pair of booties and you’re good to go.
So, are you ready to rock feathers lovelies?
