Friday Finds: New Year’s Eve Ideas with Kids

The glitz and glam of New Year’s Eve changes drastically when you have children. We like to go to dinner, and then have a mini celebration at home. The kids don’t make it to midnight, but the idea of celebrating our year together and talking about the exciting new year ahead has become something of a tradition. We also like to play games and have a special dessert. To help me out with the planning, I found a few fun inspiring blogs that included some great ways to ring in the new year with the kids.

1. The Inspired Room shared five-kid friendly New Year’s Eve ideas from various blogs, and I instantly loved the “Celebrating the Year” printout from Wonderful Joy Ahead where kids can chart their favorite things to do, eat, wear and more!

2. Glitter is big in my house, so I loved the sparkly DIY Glitter Holiday Party Hat that we could all make together to celebrate the New Year.

3. Our friends at Project Nursery shared some festive ideas to celebrating with the kids with some of favorites being playing dress-up, creating a photo booth, and having a sing-along.

4. Living on a Coupon has a simple idea to keep the kids busy by having them pop a balloon for every hour that passes leading up to midnight.

As a mother of two little boys I have to say how much I appreciate the activities organized for the whole families by so many organizations on the last day of the year. So my husband and I let our children decide what they want to do on this special day. This year our whole family’s gonna spend New Year’s Eve in the Toronto Zoo – an event chosen from the list of events taking place in our native Toronto this December. So it’s definitely gonna be a new experience for us and I hope we’ll have a lot of fun together.

    • I love that idea Stephanie!

I have 3 young girls. This year I am gonna have a slumber party with them. I got us all new pajamas and for a special treat I made them party bags with treats such as light up hats, confetti, noise makers, silly string, horns and other fun things for them to use and play with. We are gonna watch a family movie order a pizza have make our own sundaes. Then finish our night off by watching the countdown and a toast of sparkling grape juice in plastic champagne flutes. I hope to start a new tradition for me and my girls…

    • Love that you are starting family-friendly traditions! Especially the grapey toast.
