Monday Mingle: Sparkle and Shine this Fall

Fall LOFT fashion

Who’s having fun with fall fashion? I sure am. My friend Jo-Lynne inspired me to try this color–what would you call it? Ochre? I don’t know, but I like it. I also like bringing the sweaters out and playing with layers. Most of the outfit is from LOFT, some old, some new like the very special necklace I’m featuring.

I’m so proud to team up with LOFT to share this special jewelry collection designed to help women battling breast cancer and those who support such a meaningful cause.

loft breast cancer necklace

From September 18, 2015 through November 15, 2015 LOFT will donate 70% of the purchase price of this necklace ($69.50) to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (there’s also a matching pair of earrings you can buy). The LOFT Jewelry Collaboration is available at LOFT stores and online at loft.com.

The lovely team at LOFT asked me to style the necklace, so I worked with what I had, and also popped into my local LOFT to see what was new. I fell for the LOFT Relaxed turtleneck sweater in the yummiest fall color–it looks like the squash soup I made this weekend. I layered it with a Sleeveless Mock T-neck top in cream (also from LOFT). I like the way the hem dips low beneath the sweater.

The skirt is last year’s leather skirt. If you’re hankering for leather, LOFT has this pencil pleather skirt currently in stock. The Isola shoes were featured a few weeks ago, and you know I wear everything multiple times, so things get re-featured here! I don’t have a 1200 s.f. closet (you can see my closet here and find out how I tame the clutter).

budha bag

Once last trend to talk about. Are you in love with fringe this fall? I’ve got a little girl crush on the trend. Here’s the Big Buddha Graycie Front Fringe Handbag ($95). I ordered this bag from Amazon and then ended up sending it back. Should I have return remorse?

Yes Way Rosé: Delightful Ensembles Inspired by Our Favorite Summer Wine

drinkDon’t tell my kids, but sometimes Mommy needs a break… And a glass of wine… And a moment to feel free and be silly. (Funny how those last two things seem to go hand-in-hand.)

This summer, I’m embracing a new nightly routine. After I put the kids to bed–when the last bit of sunlight is fighting to stay out—I pour myself a glass of rosé, go outside, and enjoy the subtle breeze and alfresco ambiance. But, mainly, I enjoy the wine…

rose8

rose1 copyI’m usually a Cabernet-kinda gal, but the hot, humid weather calls for something crisp, bright, and refreshing. Call it clichéd or call me “basic”, but that first sip of pretty-in-pink deliciousness is absolutely life-affirming on a balmy summer evening. (Okay, slight hyperbole, but you tired mamas know what I’m talkin’ about.)

Rosé is undoubtedly the drink of the season, and I’ve happily and unabashedly hopped on the blush-wine bandwagon. Inspired by my favorite summer sipper, I’ve curated a few light, lovely, sweet, and sassy styles for the rosé-loving lady… Drink and wear responsibly.

Trendy and Tropical Summer Styles: Pineapple Prints

pineappleshirt6Okay, I admit it. This outfit is just a little bit over the top. (The pom-pom beach bag is what really puts it over the edge.) What can I say? Sometimes I like being just a little bit over the top.

Speaking of bold styles, there’s one colorful trend I’m absolutely obsessed with this season—and that’s “the pineapple print.” It’s sweet. It’s playful. It’s fresh. And it’s tastefully trendy (get it?).

pineapple_shirt1

pineapple_1This summer, I’m embracing the tropical trend in my wardrobe with a few fun punchy pineapple pieces. My peach tank top and the accompanying aqua scarf are both from Old Navy. They scream “SUMMER.” I can’t help but feel like I’m vacationing on a Hawaiian island when I wear this insanely sunny ensemble.

To celebrate the season’s most delicious fruit, I’ve rounded up a few delightful pineapple-inspired fashion finds that are ripe for the picking. I want all eight bright, kitschy-cute, and juicy pieces… but I’ll wear them all individually—because THAT would be over the top.pineapple pieces1. Anthropologie Striped Pineapple Headband, $32/ 2. Loft Pineapple Scarf, $35/ 3. Vero Moda Pineapple Print Jersey Dress, $64/ 4. Pineapple Grover Skirt, $128/ 5. Wildfox Tropical Fruits V-Neck Pullover, $98/ 6. Soludos Pineapple Smoking Slippers, $55/ 7. Kate Spade iPhone6 Case, $45/ 8. Tory Burch Pineapple Woven Tote, $350

Monday Mingle: How to Style an A-line Skirt

Swingy Pink Skirt

Think pink! It’s been my theme color this spring. Most people can wear pink–it’s just a matter of getting over the connotations that it’s a childish color. It isn’t.

Yes, my girls love the color (well the 9 year old is over it), but it can be sophisticated too. This outfit is all about the skirt. It’s from Shabby Apple. An A-line skirt flatters most people and if you are afraid to wear pink by your face, this is the perfect solution.

Spring Skirts

The top and necklace are from LOFT. Tres Jolie says the t-shirt (kinda perfect since I am just back from Paris) I think the t-shirt is the perfect thing to work with this skirt–it’s romantic with a twist. The shoes are old Ralph Lauren sandals and the bag I’ve had for a few years–it’s from Kohl’s. You gotta love having great go-tos in the closet that work with your new finds!

Spring Fashion Trends

The Park Avenue Skirt is organza and has fun stripes. I like it paired with white or gray on top, but you could also color-block. The length and cut are very flattering. A-line skirts create a nipped in waist (which I accented by knotting my tee) so if your are hour-glass this is a great style for you. If you are straighter up and down (as I am) this skirt creates some curves.

Loft accessories

And one last note. I love my neighborhood in Brooklyn–we have a PINK recycling truck! It works with the pink necklace from LOFT. How often do you get to accessorize your outfit with the garbage truck!

Jogger Pants: 3 Ways to Rock the Trend

joggersWilt Black Tank Top/ Slimskii Mohawk Skull Fringe Sweater/ Gap Moto Jogger Pants/ Lanvin Ballet Flats/ Lesa Wallace Inspire Bag/ Simone I. Smith Earrings

1. I just had a baby and my skinny jeans don’t fit.
2. I primarily work from home.
3. It’s winter, and I want to be comfortable.

These are my top three reasons for practically living in sweatpants as of late. Not that I should feel bad about this sartorial choice. Sweatpants—specifically joggers—are having a major moment. With a slightly tailored, tighter fit, they can easily be dressed up or down for work or play. (Yes, believe it or not, you can wear your favorite pair with high heels and statement jewelry without irony.)

Jogger pants have easily become a staple in my closet. I wear them at home, for date night with the hubby, for shopping trips with the kids, and even at certain work functions. Sweatpants at work? (I’m sort of living the dream!) This is one trend I hope never goes away.

To show the versatility of jogger pants, I’ve styled a few different looks with a few fabulous pairs. From professional and polished to edgy and chic to casual and comfortable, here are three ways you can rock the trend.

Monday Mingle: Casual Mom Style

casual mom style in LOFT

Or what I wear when I’m working from home! I’ve had a busy few weeks of appointments and meetings–we’re pitching and planning lots for 2015. On a rare day where all I have to do is take care of the girls and work from home I love being comfortable. But a girls got her reputation to keep up.

On my comfortable casual days, I pick denim and accessories that are practical. I layered a Lou & Grey sweatshirt over an old RL turtleneck and slipped on my current favorite denim–the CAbi constellation jeans. I live in these on the weekend.

Adding to the mix are a few new accessories. First, my annual purchase of the Ugg boots. Have I told you that I have to walk a nearly a mile to school drop off in all types of weather. Uggs are my saviors. They keep my feet so happy even when it’s 18 degrees. I set the tone for the walk to school. If I am grumpy and cold it ruins the whole morning. If I am cozy and upbeat, the girls are too. Meet this year’s winner–the Cambridge.

ugg cambridge boots

And then there’s the new bag. It’s the newest from AVON–the Classic Butler Bag. This bag is all about organization. The Butler Bag was created to solve the common problems so many women face with their go-to daily totes–the chaos within.

avon butler bag

The Butler Bag was created by serial entrepreneur, Jen Groover. Jen was inspired to create this style because of the common problem of digging through her purse and never being able to locate what she was looking for. She took a dishwasher tray, placed it in her bag and boom, everything had a specific place and the design idea was born.

Take a look at all the nifty compartments inside. You’ll never hunt for your keys again. This is a style steal–it’s under $40.

A Better Sweatshirt and Jeans

lauren denim

A twist on the Monday Classic–jeans and a sweatshirt! I know it is so tempting to dress for comfort. I love a good cozy outfit as much as anyone else. But I found a way to combine relaxed style with a focus on STYLE.

dressy sweatshirt

I stumbled upon the top when I was at a shopping event a few months ago. The gray sweatshirt is classic for the gym. But this is a fancy version from C.Wonder called the Ballet Neck Sweatshirt ($98). With a silk front and terry body this combines cozy with cute. The jeans are a pair of coated denim from Lauren. I got them last year and they are a super alternative to standard jeans (see similar here).

c.wonder bracelet

The details: Pyramid Link Bracelet crafted of stainless steel with a modern matte plating ($68). The scarf is from fashionABLE ($65) this is a ONE + fashionABLE exclusive and it is handmade in Ethiopia. I love supporting this site that helps create sustainable industry in Africa. The tote is from Old Navy for $40 it is a classic shape and a total workhorse.

aerosoles sneakersThe wedge sneakers are from Aerosoles ($99). So I think I did a pretty good job turning a basic wardrobe and turning it into fashion “do!”. So there it is from head to tow a way to re-do a favorite look.

Everyday Style for Moms

everyday style for moms

You don’t have to have a big meeting on the calendar to spruce yourself up a bit. Even if I am scheduled to be home-based and have no meetings on the calendar, I always try to throw in a bit of style. Case in point: This casual look I put together.

Nothing about this outfit looks like it takes too much effort, yet if you ran into me you would know I care about style. How to do it? Likely you have a skinny jean and black boots in your closet already. Now all you need to do is gather some great accessories, a cute top and head out the door.

For WAHMs, SAHMs or anyone with a non-corporate life, an outfit like this can make you feel pulled together. When I like what I am wearing, I act more confident and am ultimately more productive and happy. Schlumpy clothing does zero for my mood.

Let’s break down the pieces. The jeans are old and from LOFT. The boots are new (and my friend Caryn Bailey from Rockin’Mama has been after me to send her the link–here you go!)–the Keena from Vince Camuto.

keena boots by vince camuto

The Coated Canvas Bag is from Lands’ End. Its light and durable, the zippy dots make it interesting as does the contrast monogram.  The top is also from Vince Camuto. The black and white top has faux leather shoulder accents–making it anything but basic and boring.

leather detail on shoulder

The necklace is from LOFT. You’ve seen this before. Loving the ribbon as an alternative to a chain.
