I simply love Thanksgiving. It’s a holiday meant for working moms. It’s a day to slow down and celebrate family. There’s no shopping frenzy–it’s about quiet moments, loud and lively dinner tables and embracing family.
To prep for the holiday, we rely on a few tricks. And even more important, we have a post Thanksgiving recovery plan.
First, let’s talk about getting ready. Mr. Momtrends and I have so much fun planning the menu. We like to mix tradition and the element of surprise. Traditions: Brussels sprouts, homemade cranberry sauce and my prosciutto and Madeira stuffing. Surprise: Turkey recipe and a signature cocktail.
Signature Cranberry Cocktail
Unsweetened cranberry juice
Add Prosecco to champagne flute. Add a splash of unsweetened cranberry juice and top with a few frozen cranberries
Trust me–they are a total hit! This is what we came up with last year and we smoked the turkey. This year we are doing a new champagne cocktail and roasting the turkey. It makes it more fun for us to add something new every year.
We also plan on where we are going to put everyone. We have lots of family that lives out of town. That’s why we added this cool Murphy bed to our home office. This bed folds up flat into the wall–it’s a genius space saver. We opted for a very comfortable mattress and have added cozy touches. Here are some ideas to make your guests feel welcome this Thanksgiving:
Alarm clock (so they don’t oversleep and miss the Macy’s parade)
Metrocard (to make getting around NYC easier on busy days)
Clorox® Bleach Pen Gel and Clorox 2® Pre-Treat Stain Remover Pen (Laundry clean-ups)
Reading material (I always leave a few of my favorite books by the bedside)
Why Clorox® Pens? Because spills happen. Especially over Thanksgiving. Those Cranberry cocktails aren’t easy on clothes, but with a Clorox pen you’re covered. We’ve tested these out even on our whitest whites, and they work! All those fancy napkins you use will be saved! Keep a few in the laundry room as well as in the guest room.
Now what about after the big feast is over. We’ve got a plan for that too.
Post Thanksgiving Recovery
Sneaky clean-up is my method to post Thanksgiving recovery. I keep a supply of Clorox® Disinfecting Wipes in every bathroom. During a grandparent visit, I will head in the bathroom once a day and wipe down all the surfaces. Not only am I removing germs and bacteria that could be carry Staph, E. Coli, Salmonella, and Strep, I’m also showing my family a little TLC. I want them to know I appreciate all the effort it takes to come visit us during the holidays. They deserve a tidy bathroom.
TIP: always leave extra rolls in the bathroom!
After the guests leave, all I need is a Clorox® ScrubSingles™ bathroom pad. It’s a one and done proposition. To use them you just wet, scrub and then toss. Don’t you think sponges that are used in the bathroom are kind of creepy? We’ve banished reusable sponges from the bathroom altogether. Clorox® ScrubSingles™ bathroom pads come preloaded with cleaner, and feature a scrubbing surface. This specially designed surface will work on even the most stubborn bathroom stains.
And my final recovery tip? Skip the Black Friday shopping and go for a long walk with the ones you love. We go on traditional Thanksgiving hikes. You can always buy more “stuff” you can’t always create a memory.
