I was so thrilled to hear that one-piece bathing suits are making a come back. Since having our daughter, losing the 80lbs that came along with her and abhorring crunches, my stomach isnt exactly something that I want to flaunt in a bikini anymore. Le sigh.
Just in time for summer, Shabby Apple introduced their new Aquamaids line of vintage and retro one pieces and tankinis last month. Think lovely ruffled necklines and wraparound bows. High-waisted bottoms and cropped halter tops with bustline bows. These are some of the most feminine and flattering suits Ive seen. Its almost like they gasp…understand that we arent all built like Giselle but yet we still think of ourselves as sexy swim sirens.
For Shabby Apple, it’s all about being a woman. Brigitte Bardot was one. Marilyn Monroe was one. When I look at these styles, I picture myself rolling around in the sand with Burt Lancaster a la Deborah Kerr in From Here to Eternity.
A few have side seams that can easily be wore either high or low, and classic patterns like polka dots, stripes and retro gingham offer slimming illusions. With all this days-gone-by charm, they still add a touch of modern-day class with hot color combos (the bright pink, black and white is breathtaking).
They have adorable names like Oyster, Sailboat, Deckwork (not that you would be doing this when you’re so glamorous) and Flamingo, but the most gorgeous of the line INHO is the Twirl. This white and black (how on-trend!) tropical halter has a contrasting light pink sash that wraps around your waist twice for the most adorable cinching, flattering fit. It accents the waistline better than any suit Ive ever tried on, and the high cut bottom elongate the legs. The halter bust is lightly padded for a bit of shape but not so much that you grow a size. The striped Catalina and the solid Float also boast the bow.
An entire swimsuit line that celebrates our sexy figures? Not too shabby. So grab your flowered bathing cap and your cat eye sunglasses. Everyone into the pool.
