Gear Girl: Earth-Friendly Baby Gear

I hope you enjoyed a happy Earth Day on Monday! I didn’t want to let the week go by without a few tips on how to select Earth-friendly baby gear for you and your little ones.

Eco Tip #1: Go organic. Whether it’s a carrier, crib sheet, or swaddle blanket, baby gear made with organic materials will be better for baby and the Earth. (l. to r. Ergo Petunia Organic Carrier, Baby K’Tan Natural Organic Carrier, Bjorn Original Carrier in Organic Walnut, Moby Wrap Organic)

Eco Tip #2: Get gear that can grow and adapt with your family. Another great way to be kind to the Earth is to use less stuff. Look for strollers that convert from a single into a double, cribs that transform into toddler beds, convertible car seats, and high chairs that work for toddlers or tweens. (l. to r. philandsteds Promenade stroller, Maxi-Cosi Pria 70 with Tiny Fit, Svan Signet Complete High Chair, Adensen Smart Kid convertible furniture)

Eco Tip #3: Buy products that use recycled or sustainable materials. We make a lot of trash, but some companies are finding ways to reuse the trash we’ve made by integrating recycled plastic into their fabrics such as Bumbleride’s 50% recycled PET stroller fabric or Laessig’s 100% recycled polyester diaper bag. Other companies are using sustainable materials such Bloom’s Coco Baby Lounger made with wood from certified sustainable wood forests or Rooware’s dishware made from a bio-based plastic created from corn. By making Earth-friendly decisions in your baby gear you can help celebrate Earth Day every day!
