New York Fashion Love

raccoon sweater

This week we’re talking about shopping local. DUMBO (Brooklyn), my neighborhood, was hard hit by the storm (click here to see our day after video). Many of our small businesses are still cleaning up and trying to figure out how to move forward. As a community, it’s important to rally around your neighbors in support. One of my favorite retailers in DUMBO is Brooklyn Industries–a small design company based and operated in Brooklyn. This week I went in search of a great fashion feature from Brooklyn Industries and found this top.

Graphic sweaters are so trendy and chic…and a little playful. Boy could most of NYC use a little playful fashion these days. The week has been grim. To lighten things up, I picked the Raccoon Graphic Intarsia Pullover it’s cute and quirky and ideal for this layering-friendly weather. ($88)

Brooklyn Industries

I paired it up with my Denizen jean leggings, a Theodora & Callum Scarf and my old (circa 2002) biker jacket from Ralph Lauren. The boots are last year’s Coach boots–and I can walk forever in them. For more of the BI fashions click below.

In addition to highlighting our local retailers, I’m also coordinating diaper drives and trying to help get products and supplies to those in NYC and NJ in need. To read more about what we’re doing head to this Relief Effort Post.

Now I’d love to know what you’ve been up to fashion-wise. This Monday post is part of Monday Mingle. I team up with Jill from Glamamom and Kristin from BonBonRoseGirls for a weekly dose of style. We take turns hosting the linky, and this week Jill as the honors. Be sure to stop by here.

    • I’m just swooning over graphic prints!

  • Sorry to here about the Sandy aftermath! You New Yorkers bounce back quickly though!

Very cute sweater! Such a fun addition to any wardrobe!

    • Thanks April. It’s good to be talking about fashion again.

  • Love the Brooklyn sweatshirt, cute outfits!

  • Like that sweater! ^_^

  • Love the sweater!

  • I really like this casual look on you — the top is super cute, especially when paired with that scarf and jacket!

    • Thanks Alicia–hope you and the dude are back in school and getting back to normal.

  • That sweater is super cute and I am loving the feature on local boutiques. We were lucky here in Toronto that we weren’t hit too badly as by the time the storm reached us it was more like a fall storm as opposed to the beast you delt with!

  • It’s lovely to see how everyone in New York/NJ is pulling together to get things back to normal and it’s nice to see that Momtrends is helping to lead the way. Love the cute sweater by Brooklyn Industries and the classic Ralph Lauren biker jacket too!

    • Thanks April, we have a long way to go, but we are getting there with community support. I’m so fortunate to be safe, warm and dry. Using my platform to help others is the least I can do.

  • You’re amazing Nicole…The small business community is lucky to have you in their corner!

    • Thanks K. Trying to do my part!

  • I am loving these playful sweaters and sweatshirts. So fun and cute. I like Brooklyn Industries a lot. They have a few in Manhattan and their stuff reminds me of London (a good thing).

    • It’s quirky and not too expensive. Perfect for NYC fashionistas.

  • What a fun sweater…and you are right we can all use a fashion pick me up. I did some damage online shopping but also plan to shop local as soon as my local stores have POWER…can you believe most of them do not, a full week after the storm. My aunt has a boutique here in BayHead and had to throw ALL of her merchandise away, …it is heartbreaking. Thank you for posting places to donate….we have been helping out locally through our church…and will continue to do so….
Glad you and your family are safe:) C

  • I’ve never actually been to Brooklyn Industries, which is especially bad since I used to work in the same neighborhood as their headquarters!

I’m still displaced, but heading back into New York for a few days this week. Then next week… not sure yet. Everything is up in the air.

    • Hope you get some answers to all the questions you are dealing with. Thinking of you.

  • Thank you so much for linking up today! It’s hard to get a new linky started, so I really appreciate your participation! I love adding a biker jacket to a relatively casual look. It takes it up a notch and adds a bit of glamour and edge! 🙂

    • The biker is a classic. Thanks for stopping by!
