Big empty white walls can be a breath of fresh air….or they can be boring and in need of art. When we moved into our apartment a year ago, we decided to make our daughters’ room playful and bright including a hot pink ceiling. We addd colorful linens and lots of built in storage. And we were happy.
We loved and lived in the space for half a year, but one white wall kept bothering me. I didn’t want anything ordinary. My friend and designer Kirsten Sheridan and I painstakingly picked every detail of this room. The wall needed to be filled with something extraordinary. Sam Simon to the rescue.
Sam and I have been friends for years. He’s presented at our events and I’ve admired his work. Now it was time to finally team up on a personal project. Sam came to our loft and spoke with the girls. We talked about princesses and dreams. I showed Sam pictures of a trip to India–with the rich colors of that magical part of the world. And then Sam went to work.
I can’t tell you how the magic happened. But I can share some of the process.

Gazing on this unique piece makes waking up a little sweeter for our princesses and bedtime a little less lonely thanks to all the friendly animal that have joined the mix. A custom piece requires faith–but with the brushes in Sam’s hands you’ll be assured of a wonderful result.
Sam is based in NYC, but frequently travels for commissions. Find out more http://www.samsimonprojects.com/
Momtrends was not paid for this post. We happily commissioned Sam for this one-of-a-kind piece.
