I’m a smoothie fanatic. It’s my go-to breakfast choice in the summer. I grab my blender and pop in fresh bunches of kale from our garden, local farm berries, ice cubes and a dollop of Greek yogurt. Divine and refreshing. But don’t think that when fall rolls around they’re off the morning start menu. No, no, no. When the temps start to drop, I just do more savory ones with pumpkin puree and honey. But still a dollop of Greek yogurt. The only thing missing once the chillier seasons hit is the fresh berries. So I do what I can to freeze blueberries, raspberries and blackberries (oh my) away throughout the summer, so I can always toss them in for a frosty throwback to sunnier days.
Yasso has the right idea with their new line of smoothies. We’ve been enjoying their frozen Greek yogurt bars right alongside our own homemade juice pops all spring and summer, so I was thrilled to discover the smoothies. In Strawberry Banana, Mango Pineapple, and Mixed Berry, they’re everything you need to create a creamy and healthy smoothie in seconds. When blended with one cup of skim milk, each 8 oz. serving is fat-free, low in sugar and boasts 8 grams of protein as well as 4 grams of fiber (not something you think of when it comes to a smoothie unless you’re pouring in the wheatgerm).
The Yasso lines all natural. And they don’t mess around. Look at the ingredients for the strawberry banana blend smoothie’nonfat Greek yogurt cubes, strawberries, and bananas. It’s like they foraged through my fridge and put their findings into a little convenient freezer bag so that I didn’t have to. How sweet, thanks.
And because their yogurt has live active cultures, you benefit from probiotics that keep your insides in great shape, not to mention the uber-high protein content that only Greek yogurt boasts. And everything Yasso is fat-free and low-cal (the yogurt bars are only 70 calories), so you’ll keep your outsides looking good.
As it turns out Yasso is from the Greek work Yassou, which means ‘hello.’ So Yassou, Yasso. Or should I say good morning.
Yasso Frozen Greek Yogurt Smoothies are available at grocery stores nationwide in the freezer sections.
