During the busyness of BlogHer Momtends and Project Nursery gathered a small group of bloggers for a relaxing afternoon to meet with the founders of Zutano, Michael and Uli Belenky, to preview some of the hottest trends for Spring 2013.
Held at the iconic toy store, FAO Schwartz, guests were treated to delicious tacos as they scoped out the adorable fashions, mixed and mingled and chatted with the Zutano team.
To kick-0ff the event Melisa Fuhr, co-founder of Project Nursery spoke about her hugely popular website that shows “real parents how to take charge of their own design and decorating projects.” This includes a focus on kid design and baby nursery room decor with a soon-to-be launched site for kids three to nine years old called Project Jr. Melisa also spoke with our guests about some of her blogging philosophies where she mentioned it is important to have fun, take risks and to make sure it is an extension of your personality!
Michael then spoke about how women are an incredible force in media and how excited they are to work with bloggers. He also spoke about the history of Zutano and how it started shortly after his daughter, Sofia, was born. During the early days, Michael would hand-deliver any orders via his bicycle (also on display at the event!) throughout NYC. They quickly outgrew their NYC brownstone and moved to Vermont, which is also where the company is now located.
Having a unique company culture (they allow moms to bring their babies to work for up to one-year), Zutano has created a positive community along with their growing catalog of adorable kids’ fashions that now includes a fun line for Target called ZUTANOBLUE and a growing collection of clothes for babies and toddlers.
Ulli then shared some of the fun fashions for Spring 2013 with a huge theme around the circus with bright colors, fun stripes, and a new color palette with yellow and heather gray. There will also be a theme around the garden with puppies and butterfly’s as well as theme with a focus on the sea including a sailing feel with fuschia and vertical stripes.
While checking out the preview I loved the fun animal t-shirts, vertical striped skirts, cute socks with animals, cap sleeve bodysuit and colorful jeans.
An evening devoted to children’s fashion, Zutano showcased their incredible line that represents fun, whimsy and the bright and color side of childhood. Always fresh, exciting and inspiring, we can’t wait to see what’s next for this innovative brand.
