Going to school can be filled with many emotions for young students. Some are very excited. Some are afraid. Whatever feelings your child may be having, it is a great idea to prepare for school by reading together. Sometimes just the idea of knowing what to expect can put everyone, mom included, at ease.
Here are my book recommendations. They can all be found on Scholastic.com and Amazon:
Preschool Day Hooray! by Linda Leopold Strauss. The book goes through a typical preschool day in rhyme where kids can learning all about routines and what to expect. They is a great tool to help your preschooler feel confident about their first day of school.
Clifford’s First Day of School by Norman Bridwell: Every child should have the opportunity to fall in love with Clifford and Emily Elizabeth. This Clifford book is an eBook used with the Storia app.
The Night Before Kindergarten by Natasha Wing: This book shows all incoming K’s how fun the day will be. Schedules, supplies and saying goodbye to mom and dad will have your kindergartener ready to go.
First Grade Jitters by Robert Quackenbush: This book is for those first graders who have lots of questions about what the new grade will be like. Will they make friends? Will they need to know how to read?
I also have to mention that one of my favorite and most beloved children’s authors, Mem Fox has a book for parents entitled Reading Magic: While Reading Aloud to Our Children Will Change Their Lives Forever. This book takes a humorous approach to the importance of reading aloud to your child more than once a day.
