My back to school shopping is done! Don’t be jealous. I had a little help. A few weeks ago, I planned a trip to Westfield Trumbull to take care of serious business…shopping.

Armed with my list, I met with Bryan Gaus the GM of the mall. After a quick jolt of caffeine at the impeccably clean Starbucks inside Target, I was fueled and ready to go. Bryan made my life easy by giving me the lay of the land. But guess what? At Westfield they make it simple for any parent to shop–even without a tour guide. The mall has grouped stored into districts (thing kids, teens, tech) so you can get everything you need without wasting time.

So here’s a look at what I needed: “First Day Outfits”, sneakers, fun tops for the girls that work with jeans and leggings, a few school supplies and a few dresses. Mission accomplished. I was able to visit: Target, Sketchers, The Children’s Place, Okaïdi, P.S. Aeropostale, and H&M Kids to get all of this done in under 2 hours.

Since I was in under budget ($250) and found everything so fast, I had plenty of time to take in the clean and well appointed mall. A few years back the mall had a major facelift (think millions and millions) and the effort shows. The mall is bright and modern with tons of family friendly spaces–including a lounge (hello breastfeeding moms!) and both and outdoor and indoor play areas. I met the nicest group of four new moms during my visit and chatted a bit with them. Turns out they meet every Friday at the mall for a playdate. It’s really a community resource.

And then there’s the fashion. I had to hide my wallet from myself (not too hard my bag was messy) to avoid getting a sublime fuchsia sweater I spotted at J.Crew and a fabulous bag at Coach. Instead I treated myself to a mani and pedi at one of the mall’s many upscale salons. Then I was treated to a delicious sushi lunch at Ten Sushi right next to Lord & Taylor. The chef’s special rolls rivaled my favorite city spot Haru (might I suggest a back to school lunch for a group of moms after the bus picks the kids up the first day).
