Just a short trip from home, we discovered a delightful family escape at The Omni Berkshire Place, located in the heart of NYC’s high-fashion shopping mecca.
Our staycation began prior to leaving home with a phone call from the Hotel’s concierge who helped plan our visit by making dinner reservations and sharing details about Camp Omni. I was excited to learn about the family friendly offerings available through Camp Omni. While it is not your traditional drop-off-your-kids-and-go-camp, it does offer a remarkable package of benefits for the whole family.
- Deluxe accommodations (suite, so that you can sleep separate from your kids)
- Complimentary breakfast for kids 12 and under from the buffet or children’s menu
- 15% discount when you stay two nights
- Kids’ $10 gift cards to be redeemed anywhere in the hotel
- A scavenger hunt with a merit badge and ‘dirt & worms’ dessert upon completion
- Welcome back-pack filled with activities, s’mores-flavored marshmallows, collapsible water bottle and a lanyard kit
Upon arrival we immediately discovered The Omni Berkshire’s attention to detail. From the fresh apples in the lobby (we all grabbed one) to the thoughtful welcome platter and Omni Kids back packs presented in our room.
After a peaceful night sleep, we embarked on the first of many royal treatments the kids would experience over our two day staycation. A complimentary hot and cold buffet breakfast for the kids along with a special after-breakfast drink were a huge hit.
With tummies filled, we embarked on the scavenger hunt camp activity. Our first stop was the17th floor patio of the hotel where we had to identify and name the famous church. Check.
On to the next. We had to name all of the colors seen in the floral display in the main lobby. Check.
The hunt continued to find out the country of a chocolate shop, the closest train stops to the hotel and the countries of the flags outside the hotel. We completed the game and were awarded with a yummy sweet treat. In addition to the scavenger hunt, we participated in other recommended camp activities including the famed carousel in central park and Sony wonder technology lab.
We added 5th Avenue window shopping, FAO Schwartz and a visit to the Build A Bear workshop to complete our day.
We arrived back at the hotel ready for treat, so the kids used their $10 camp dollars to buy ice cream.
Later, we dined at the Fireside Restaurant where a lovely table was set for the kids. You will find all of the basics on the kids’ menu and they are happy to add fresh carrots and broccoli to any order. For adults, the Mediterranean salad with capers was divine!
We ended the meal with our all-time favorite dessert, smores.
Relaxing in their little suite before heading off to sleep.
Camp Omni takes family vacations to a whole new level with their family oriented activities and perks for a good night sleep.
Farewell to The Omni Berkshire Place and thank you for a 2012 memorable family staycation!
