Samsung High Capacity Moms

Modern moms continually inspire me with their efficiency. For most of us the kitchen is control central as we manage family and possibly a career. The kitchen hub has to be a productive workplace, but we also want it to be a source of pride. My take: Samsung gets it.

Last week, I joined Kim from Mom in the City and Michelle from Mom Central to give a brief media presentation titled: High Capacity Moms.  The triumvirate of working moms on stage shared our goals of cooking nutritious meals and not getting stuck in the kitchen. There are more women than ever in the workforce.  The modern mom needs a kitchen that will let her get creative, while also allowing her to spend quality time with the family. We shared our thoughts on prioritizing, time management and home entertaining.

It wasn’t just us that Samsung wanted to hear from. Samsung talked to moms across the country before debuting this new line of appliances and here’s what they heard:

  • There’s been a 27% increase in home entertaining.
  • Square footage is dropping in the American home. We are no longer super-sizing the floorplans.
  • Bulk shopping allows us to cut back on trips to the market and nab deals.
  • Organic food purchases are growing at double digit rates. We care about freshness and quality.
  • We are less interested in commercial grade appliances.

Don’t believe Samsung is listening? How about the groovy new Four-Door Refrigerator (shown, $2700 and up).  This was my favorite item at the showcase. The fourth drawer is the perfect height for kids. My 4 year-old is all bout helping asserting independence. She’d love this fridge. She could walk up get a snack and not have to involve mom.  The middle door has several temperature settings–use it for beverages, party platters, snacks or meat. Personlize it for your needs. The four-door fridge and the other appliances should be available this spring.

Daniel DiClerico a writer from one of my favorite resource’s Consumer Reports was there–he seemed a bit miffed that dad’s weren’t involved in the conversation.  Check out his blog post here.  Alice at Truth & Beauty had another take on the event. What do you think? Is Samsung on target or stuck in the 50′s?
